		<description>Reseaech&#38;nbsp;
I am trained as a scholar of religion. My research focuses on intellectual, social, and material histories. I am particularly interested in fresh theoretical approaches to Islamic subjectivity and sociality (adab); Persian and Arabic literary cultures; and affects, emotions, and embodiment in Islam.
I completed my Ph.D. in Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, my dissertation was titled Pious Praise Poetry: Emotions, Piety, and the Making of the Medieval Islamic Subject.I have a master’s degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies (my concentration was Arabic literary history) from the Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations department, and another one in Religious Studies, both from Penn. I received my undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Near Eastern Intellectual History from the CUNY Baccalaureate for Unique and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Beyond my own research and teaching, I use my training in Islamic visual and material culture, especially manuscripts, as well as my expertise in Arabic, Persian, and Turkic languages to work as consultant and translator with musuems and libraries, on digital humanities programs (e.g. Unstable Archives), and for research projects.
